Rob Callister MHK resigns from Department of Health and Social Care

By The iomtoday newsdesk in Politics

Rob Callister had resigned as member from the Department of Health and Social Care - citing personal reasons and a difference of opinion with the Minister Kate Beecroft.

On his Facebook page, the Onchan MHK posted: ‘Personally, I am extremely disappointed at having to submit my resignation from the department at such an early stage of this administration, but I felt it was the right decision, and it was the right time to make that difficult decision.

As a department member I have found it increasingly difficult over the last month to support a particular course of action being undertaken by the Minister for Health and Social Care, and therefore I felt that tendering my resignation was the only option available to me.

‘My resignation is for personal reasons and a difference of opinion with the Minister, and I am not prepared at this time to publish further details into the reason why I tendered my resignation.’

The Council of Ministers has accepted the resignation.

Mr Callister will continue to serve as a member of the Department for Economic Development where he has responsibility for tourism, hospitality, motorsport and the construction sector.

I hope he didn't resign over new taxi transfer contract.

If the issue is important in its impact on the general public it should be published. Not doing so indicates that it is probably trivial. More of a personality clash?

As the good people of Onchan voted you in Mr Callister, then surely you have a duty to them to say just why you resigned and not wash it over with feeble brush offs

Whilst not normally a fan of Mr Callisters, I fully support his decision-as a member, he has to support the Minister--he obviously can't and has taken the only honest step possible-resignation. Far too many government hypocrites are sitting on Departmental boards solely for the extra money --credit where its due- the public call for honesty in their representatives and it's a tough decision to make---well done......

Politicians are not supposed to have principles Mr Callister. Just ideology and a strong desire to survive in the role. Take our last CM for example.

Tell us what has gone wrong over the last month! What is the action she is taking. Half a story is just totally annoying. Kate Beecroft, now a deep rooted establishment figure has a cunning plan it looks like. She must have consulted no one in devising this plan again. So it should be as good as her stance on abortion. Gulp.

Once wrong this time Mr Callister? You never had a problem publishing a derogatory comment about a politician previously.

Gosh. I cannot imagine anyone having a moral/political difference of opinion with Ms Beecroft? She is such a fair-minded woman. Would only treat others as she is treated.
