President Ann Cottier welcomed members of Ballabeg WI to our April meeting, thanking everyone who helped in anyway in making our annual concert yet another very successful evening.
We played to a packed hall in Ballabeg, our compere for the evening was Mr Noel Cringle, with guest performances from Peter Quayle, Paul Costain, Arie Eisinger and Sarah Elder.
This concert has been running for more than 40 years, with some members being in it almost from the beginning.
It is always an eagerly awaited highlight of village life in Ballabeg.
Pam Beedon, the island chairman, was literally swept of her feet by Paul Costain in his song ’Mud Glorious Mud’.
On to other business.
Our monthly summer walks will start again on April 26, with a walk in Silverdale Glen.
Lunch at the College of Further Education will take place in May and a visit to Joey Dunlop house is also planned.
Ann then welcomed our speaker for the evening, Ms Helaina Crawford, who gave a very interesting talk on the work and history of the Leonard Cheshire Charity, which was started by Leonard Cheshire in 1948 in England.
It has been operating in the Isle of Man for 25 years. Helaina who is the volunteer co-ordination for the charity was keen to stress that all money raised on the Isle of Man stays on the island.
The meeting then concluded with a welcome cuppa and chat.
Ballabeg WI meets on the second Wednesday of the month in Ballabeg Methodist Hall and will always give new members a very warm welcome.
