THE Isle of Man is set to take a leading role in Sunday night's opening episode of a new series starring actor and long-distance motorcyclist Charley Boorman.
After his exploits with fellow actor Ewan McGregor in Long Way Round and Long Way Down, Boorman visited the Island in July as part of his new series, Charley Boorman: Ireland to Sydney By Any Means.

Sunday's programme will see him riding a lap of the TT circuit in the company of 14-times TT winner and 130mph lap record holder John McGuinness.

Programme makers say the Island features for 10 minutes in the episode, which begins in County Wicklow.

Boorman's challenge is to reach Australia using any mode of transport he can and the series will see him travel by diverse means from gondola to elephant, not to mention classic car and yacht.

On the journey he will use 110 forms of transport crossing 25 countries and three continents.

The series starts on BBC2 at 8pm this Sunday (September 7).

Keen observers will know that Boorman enjoys another Manx connection -he narrated the David Knight DVD, Ironman of Enduro, which was released in January.
